bonding, veneers, sealants & whitening in edmonton

Providing bonding, veneers, sealants, composite fillings, and whitening in Edmonton, Brookview Dental Clinic offer cosmetic dentistry services.  Whitening is a simple method for achieving a brighter, more confident smile, and works on people of all ages from teenagers to seniors.  We offer take-home for whitening —discuss it with a dentist or hygienist to determine which one is the right choice for you.

Please keep in mind that in cases of extreme tooth discolouration, whitening may not be enough and crowns or veneers might be needed.  Whitening treatments may cause tooth sensitivity during use, but this is only temporary and can be minimized with the use of sensitivity toothpaste such as Sensodyne®.

INVISALIGN®

Invisalign® is a way to straighten your teeth using a series of clear aligners (also known as trays or retainers) and is an aesthetically-pleasing alternative to metal braces.  You wear each aligner about 22 hours per day, removing the aligner to eat as well as clean your teeth.  Each aligner moves the teeth approximately 0.25mm and is worn for roughly two weeks before moving on to the next aligner.  On average, Invisalign® treatments take roughly eleven months, but the length of your case is highly dependent on the degree of crowding or spacing of your teeth.  At the end of your Invisalign® treatment, retainers are recommended to hold the teeth in their new positions.  Not all cases can be treated with Invisalign®.  In some cases, we will refer you to an orthodontist to explore other options available to you.  Please call us to see if Invisalign® is right for you. bonding

In some cases, we are able to restore chipped, cracked, discoloured, or misaligned teeth with bonding using composite, tooth-coloured filling material as an alternative to veneers.

Considerations: The plastic resin used in bonding is not as strong as the enamel on natural teeth.  As a result, bonding lasts usually between two to five years before repairs are needed for chips, stains, or breakage.  However, bonding is a quick and inexpensive procedure, only taking a single office visit.

composite fillings

Composite fillings consist of resin, a mixture of plastic and glass, and are used to restore decayed or broken teeth.  As composite fillings are tooth coloured, they are more aesthetically pleasing compared to amalgam fillings.

Considerations:  To place a composite filling, the area around the tooth must be dry for the filling to stick to the tooth properly.  In some cases, this is difficult or impossible to do (for instance, if there is bleeding or the cavity is below the gumline) and an amalgam filling may be needed.  Amalgam has been proven as a safe restorative material and is only used in rare cases, such as described above.

veneers

Veneers are thin shells of ceramic that are bonded to your teeth’s front surfaces, improving the aesthetics of your smile by improving the shape, length, colour and position of the teeth. A small amount of enamel is removed from the front of your tooth in order to make room for a custom veneer that provides a natural look.

Will They Look Like Normal Teeth? Veneers are ultra-thin and virtually undetectable.  When bonded to your teeth, they are highly resistant to coffee, tea, and cigarette stains.  They are strong and resemble healthy tooth enamel.

How Durable Are Porcelain Veneers? Veneers are custom made using high strength porcelain.  Please refrain from using your veneers as tools to open and cut things in order to prolong their life.  If accidental breakage or damage occurs, our office can replace the veneer.
